Went to Servix yesterday and invested in some bright en very colorful backgrounds for studio shots. When used, the result looks very contemporary and modern. Very cool for shoots with kids.

VDV Cleaning

An adventurous day, yesterday, when I shot images for VDV Cleaning Belgium. They wanted an update of their image bank for use in brochures an on website. Together with Cristoph Bral I went to different places in Flanders where people from VDV where in action to photograph them. I also went inside a sewer to take some photographs, very cool, be it a bit smelly...

family portret

A chaotic but very enjoyable shoot last weekend at the Van Herreweghes in Drongen. Assignment was to shoot images of the different family members in my mobile studio at their house. There were 3 small children, 2 pair of parents and 2 grand parents and all kind of combinations had to be shot...

Philips Basecles

Some recent images of an assignment for Philips lighting in a private garden in Basecles last week can be seen by clicking the image below. The idea was to show the special led lights in the garden. Best time do do this was at dawn, hence the funcky colors.

Had 2 stressful moments yesterday and the day before. 2 times about 280 graduates + rectors waiting for me to take their group picture on the stairs of aula Ghent. Not an easy task since all they wanted at that time was to go out and celebrate their graduation.... Here's one of the groups posing :

Images of colorfull marriage

I had a great time last saturday shooting the marriage of Melissa and Jochen. I followed the couple from the Marriot hotel in Ghent to the Sint Peters church and the reception and evening party at Laarne castle. There where over 10 different nationalities present from all over the world.No need to say this was a very colorful lot. A small selection of images can be seen by clicking the image below.

I saw the light

last week I had an interesting assignment for Philips lighting. They have a new kind of light that's installed in different streets in cities around Belgium. It's a kind of white light that uses a lot less energy than "ordinary" street lights. They asked me to show that the white light can be very intimate. For this assignment I went to Lillo near Antwerp and "eilandje" in Antwerp.

I also did a coorporate shoot for the kind people of Bastinpack. They wanted a complete update of their images from machinery, people and product for use in their leaflets and website. I experimented with the use of gels to create a very modern atmosphere. They seemed to be really happy with the result :-)

Coming up this weekend and next week : a lot of school photography, the marriage of Melissa and Jochen at Laarne castle, a shoot of the allumni at aula Gent,...

Hey everybody. You might have noticed a lower frequency in blog post. Don't worry, there's nothing wrong, I am just occupied with school photography untill the end of november and have little time to keep the blog up to date. There are some other assignments as well wich I 'm squeezing in between. For example next week I 'm doing 2 evening shoots for Philips lighting and a marriage. I 'll try to make some time to keep on posting blogs so you an follow my work and see some results.

The next few months are going to be very busy with several marriages, school photography, complete coverage of a company for their new website and brochure, a shoot for the university of Ghent,... I will certainly try to update the blog on a regular basis.

In this calmer period I have some time to play around and do some personal work. Yesterday I worked on a series of cookies that I wanted to present VERY rich and yummie. You can take a look at the result by clicking the image below.

I invested in a "pro pack" of Lee lighting filters (only 99 euro, so not a huge investment...) so you can look forward to some experiments with those in the near future.

job for Remy-Cointreau

After my job for them last year, the people of Remy-Cointreau (distributors of brands like Piper champagne, Cointreau, ...) hired me again for there "coffee card project". Idea is to make a kind of card to put on tables in bars and restaurant to inform people. They 're a lot of fun to work with and I 'd like to thank Tineke again for our great cooperation.

SOFAM workshop

I attended a SOFAM (deales with copyright issues) workshop at the MSK in Ghent yesterday. Some guestspeakers -amongst them Carl Dekeyzer- came to talk about Photography and internet. One of the conclusions was that it's clear that there's an evolution towards consumers not willing to pay for photographs they find on the internet anymore. And it's up to us to find new ways of finding a reason for existance as a photographer. Oh, today's jury time for my "Art Photography" class. I will post some images from the exhibition at galerij Colle in the coming days.

new toys

Just invested in a Nikon 70-200 2,8 lens and I can't wait to use it to make some cool portraits. Axel and Joke who get married on friday will probably be my frst victimes;-) Also bought a Lowepro "commercial AW" bag. So I can finally get all my gear comfortably in one bag. Saves me some time and less chance to forget stuff...

New method of pricing for marriages

I had some time the previous days to review my pricing and decided to simplify the pricing for marriages. I added an extra link on the homepage of my website. There are now 3 categories from "basic" to "elaborate" to "All in". This is what I believe to be a very clear and transparant price setting. Click on the image for details on prices.

On monday I went to an event from the "National Union of Belgian Photographers" at Poeke Castle. At this event you could meet several suppliers (Nikon, Adobe, Epson, ...) and there where several workshops. I followed two interesting workshops : Norbert Maes showed us his way of shooting portraits, and Stefan Matthijssens had brought a just married couple to teach us something about shooting a marriage. Thanks again to both, I thought it was very interesting. Here's an image of the participants at Poeke castle:

exposition graduates "photo art"

Exhibition images Kabassenstoet

My images from the "Kabassenstoet" in Ghent will be shown in an exhibition from mai 20th till june 6th in VDK-Spaarbank, Sint-Michielshelling, Ghent, together with the images from college photographers.

For my trip to Scotland (and other assignments in the future) I invested in a new wide angle zoom lens, the 14-24 2,8 Nikkor. First test shots came out great. This lens will give me a lot more flexibility to work in small spaces. It is also very usefull for landscape photography. There is a little catch though ; you have to be very attentive about deformations that are typical for this kind of extreme lenses as you can see below...

The route for my Scotland trip next week, where I will try to make an interesting article about "the rich tradition in fishery and seafood in Scotland", is getting shape. I had some interesting reactions from people who are willing to show me around at their jobs (fisherman, producers of seafood...) and decided to limit myself to the Isle of Skye and surroundings. I believe I will get all the images I need for an interesting article. Any people who have tips about beautiull harbours, landscapes, restaurants,... in this area, please let me know. Also tips about how getting an article published are most welcome. Hope to show you some spectacular Scotland images shortly.

Kabassenstoet 2009 Ghent

"fruit and veggies on purple" images

I had lots of fun yesterday creating a new series of food images called "fruit and veggie images". I did almost set the house on fire in the process, when the coloured paper around my flash caught fire, but hey, that's a small price to pay right? Here's a preview :

Champagne!!!

Yes, Champagne to celebrate my new blog of course!

Here, I will keep people updated on my whereabouts as a photographer.

As a photographer you are learning all the time by doing different typres of assignment, dealing with different clients, trying to find new clients, get your images to be seen,... Because of the many aspects about the profession it can somletimes look like a confusing and chaotic occupancy, but at the same time it can be incredebly fascinating and very fulfilling. By sharing my experiences, I hope that people who are interested in photography, will pick up some new things from time to time. Off coure I am also interested in learning from you guys, so feel free to comment on my images, give tips, report interesting photography opportunities, announce exhibitions... In the coming weeks I will be organizing my photography trip to Scotland from 17 to 24 of mai, wich I hope to get published. I will finalize my end project at Sint Lucas, Gent, so everything is ready for the exposition at galerij Jan Colle. My goal is also to make a professional looking portfolio and start activly visiting publicity agencies and other possible clients to get some interesting assignments. On saturday afternoon I will be photographing the "Kabassebstoet" in Ghent together with my fellow Sint Lucas students. Results will follow...
