Some more news

What have I been up to lately? Well, quiet a lot really :-)
You may have allready noticed, but I changed my logo (yes, that's it above :-). This logo will now be used in all my communication and publicity, creating a stronger brand for "Kris Jacobs Photography". I have also put this logo on my car, so people will know who that crazy driver is ;-)
I made another trip, to Morocco this time, and took my Canon S 90 compact camera (instead of my usual fullframe Nikon D3), trying to prove this type of camera allso allows you to make great images without the hassle and weight of a big camera. Here are some results :
Furthermore, I invested in a Epson Stylus Photo R2880 A3+ printer, allowing me to make fantastic prints right here in my office
Will be back with more news soon!
investing in light
Always growing and moving ahead, I decided to invest in some extra flashguns.
I had a Nikon SB 600 and a SB 900, which are fine. But I started to feel the need for more flashes to be abled to get more control over the light in all circumstances. Now I bought two extra SB 900’s. They re just excellent quality and easy to move around on location.
If you think flash always kills atmosphere and leads to horrid stark pictures, you’re missing out on a whole world of stunning photography that flashguns can bring.
Lifting a lifeless portrait, filling in shadows from harsh sunlight or even creating dramatic colourful scenes, getting to grips with flash can transform your photos.
Here are a few images I made of with off flash camera :

product photography
Lately I have been focussing on product photography. Since this is quiete a specialized area in photography, I needed to do some investments. One of the things I bought is a light tent. This is an indispensable tool for photographing jewellery. It takes away harsh shadows and gives a nice even light. Playing around with black paper in the light tent creates a bit of character in the jewellery.
Also, I invested in a Epson Stylus A3+ photo printer. This way I can show my work to clients, allowing them to see the finished result of a photo shoot.

time for more experiments
The last couple of days I had some time to play around and do some experiments. This is not only a lot of fun, but also usefull since it makes you learn a great deal. Trying new stuff really pushes one to find new ways, make the most of his photography equipment and become a better photographer... Here are some results.

artistic nude experiment
A while ago I had the opportunity to do a shoot with a nude model. It was the first time I did such a shoot and learned a lot from it. I am really quiete pleased with the result (see below).
Also decided to invest in a decent Manfrotto Tripod with ball head. It's just a lot more stable and user friendly than my Velbon tripod and will allow me to work even more precise and faster in the future.

investing in the future
It's been a while, but finally I 'm back with some news from the photography front.
Business has been great in the last couple of months. I have the impression that my hard work is paying of! Lots of assignments from as well business as private clients. Since I would like to continue to grow I decided I needed to do some investments. Upgraded my software with Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS 5, bought a new harddisk as an extra backup for al my precious images. Also invested in a Wacom tablet for more precise adjustments in the postprocessing of images.
More and more I have been feeling the need for a larger and more professional studio space. Therefore I am now collaborating with a perfectly equipped studio in Drongen to be able to welcome clients, make up artists, models,... in a very comfortable way.
Also, I bought a new Nikon full frame camera as a backup for my beloved Nikon D3. Just want to make sure I don't get in trouble if ever the D3 malfunctions...
Here's a slideshow with some recent favorite wedding images.
For more images and information please visit http://www.positief-online.be/ My website is regularly updated with new images.
Even though september, october and november will be very , very buzy, I 'll make sure to keep my blog up to date with more news.
Take care,
Kris

first cover!
Very proud to say that one of my images is used as the cover of "Weeked Knack's" promotional adjunct. The same image serves as this month's theme decoration in al of "Standaard Boekhandel's" shops.

Another one of my (food) images appears in the great new book "Foodprint" which covers many different aspects of everything that has to do with... food and gastronomy in belgium.

work in progress
Lately I have been working on a cookbook for a television show called "komen eten". The book should be in the shops in a couple of months and I am looking forward to it very much. It's my first similar project and I 've learned a great deal. Not only the technical aspect, but also about dealing with my clients and their wishes, and the huge amount of work that comes with a job like this... (altering menus, buying ingredients, styling of the dishes, cooking...) Here's a small selection of images. In total I am making 66 dishes for this book.
Also, next month, an image I made will be used in the Shops from Standaard Boekhandel for their monthly theme. I did this shoot with two children "models" in my studio. The theme was communion. The same image will be used on the cover from Weekend Knack magazine. Exciting times!
